Common Reason Why Cats Stop Eating
What to do if your cat suddenly stops eating
Many times the cat does not eat enough food or stops eating food altogether. Cats, of course, love to eat. If you don’t want to eat, you have to understand that there is no problem eating. Therefore, if you stop eating, you must find the right reason and solve it.
Reasons to stop eating
Illness can be the main cause
- Cats completely stop eating food when they are affected by any kind of disease, such as fever, diarrhea, kidney disease, etc.
Worm infestation
- When there are more worms in the stomach, the cat feels sick, vomits and does not want to eat food.
After spaying, neutering or vaccination
- It is advisable to Spay and Neuter or eat food for a few days after vaccination.
During heat cycle
- Cat aversion to food can occur before and after coming to Heat.
Boredom with same food
- It can be difficult to eat the same food for a long time.
Environmental change
- Many cats do not want to eat food when they are outdoors, traveling by car, or in new environments.
Emotional reasons
- Cats are very emotional animals. Don’t want to eat if you don’t like food or are upset or miss a partner.
Stop eating — what you’re doing
Take the cat to the vet
- The cat should be taken to the nearest Vet as soon as possible.
- Medication should be taken according to his recommendations, diagnosing the cause of the illness.
Hydration and energy support
- When the cat does not eat food and water, its strength gradually decreases, water emptiness occurs in the body.
- It must eat more water at a time when it is weak.
- Until the Vet is delayed, the cat should be fed:
- 8-10 drops of saline every two hours with a syringe or dropper
- OR 6-8 drops of Dextrose 25% (glucose) every three hours
- However, in case of diarrhea, glucose cannot be fed — enough water must be given.
Deworming
- If worms, deworming must be done.
Proper food choice
- Only boiled fish or chicken can be served without spices
- Beef is strictly prohibited for cats because the meat is spoiled.
Food variation
- Always change the food you are used to eating and give it another meal.
- If you eat fish, eat chicken.
Encouraging appetite
- Small amounts of:
- Tuna fish
- Chicken liver
- Egg yolks
can be given to the cat to encourage feeding.
- However, giving them too much can be harmful.
Clean and fresh food
- Always eat clean, fresh and good food.
- Make sure your cat’s meals are always fresh, hygienic, and safe to eat.
- Feed your cat only clean, uncontaminated, and high-quality food.
- Avoid stale or spoiled food — always offer meals that are fresh and healthy.
After vaccination or spaying
- If you Spay and Neuter or give a Vaccine, the aversion will heal within 2–3 days and the interest in food will return.
Try new food flavors
- If the Cat is used to eating Food, the brand or flavor can be changed.
Final Note
I have a cat that has three years of experience.
Cats should not turn if they cannot take care of the cat regularly.
